  • Cork was in great shape, a bit stained at the bottom. Decanted for one hour. Subtle nose of tart dark fruit with a whiff of nail polish. Medium bodied, supple, rather tight, showing some tart dark fruit with volatile nail polish and a hint of tar carried by vibrant tannins and firm acidity. Nice dusty kick on the finish. Felt still quite tannic and youthful and should have many years left.

  • Macerated for 12-15 days with the skins, one third in open-top fermentors. Aged for 18 months in French and American oak 225-liter barriques (75%) and 500-liter demi-muids (25%); 25% new oak, 75% used. Bottled lightly filtered. 13,4% alcohol, 3,0 g/l residual sugar, 6,0 g/l acidity, 0,57 g/l VA and pH 3,35. Tasted blind.

    Translucent and quite youthful cherry red with a luminous ruby core and pale, colorless rim. Savory and somewhat restrained yet still very attractive nose with nuanced aromas of crunchy cranberries, blood, some sour cherries, a little bit of damp leaves, light savory wood tones and a hint of meatiness. Overall there is a certain Nebbiolo-like quality in the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, tough and tannic on the palate with dry and savory flavors of crunchy cranberries, sour cherry bitterness, some wild strawberries, a little bit of meaty umami, light gravelly minerality, a sanguine hint of iron and a touch of bitter lingonberry. The wine feels impressively structured and tightly-knit with its high acidity and ample, grippy tannins. The finish is tough and tannic with dry, lengthy flavors of tart lingonberries, sour cherry bitterness, some gamey umami notes, a little bit of Nebbiolo-like tar, light mineral notes of gravel and a hint of earth.

    A very tannic, sinewy and structure-driven Xinomavro that could easily pass for a Nebbiolo - it did have all the hallmarks of the variety and I thought to myself immediately that this was a Piedmontese red. However, when it was revealed that it wasn't Nebbiolo, I was immediately on the right tracks and guessed correctly that then it must be a Xinomavro. Overall this wine is very tasty and impressively focused, but also still so primary and just painfully young. Feels more structure-driven than many other vintages of Ramnista with less oak influence. Due to its angular tannic structure, the wine is in dire need of further aging. Highly recommended.

  • Half bottle off the wine list over lunch at Michael Mina.
    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral roses, earth, sour red cherries, sweet caramel. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), velvety high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, red plum, earth, sweet spices. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Good Xinomavro! Will develop and improve with more age for sure.
    Ramnista is an old vines Xinomavro sourced from selected vineyard blocks within the Yianakohori vineyard in Naoussa.
    Aged in a mixture of French and American oak (25% new in a mixture of 225-liter and 500-liter casks) for 18 months.
