  • Elegant in the nose. Discreet bordering on underwhelming. Notes of rose petal: also a slight note of leather and earth coming on. Herbal tone on the palate.
Soft tannins. Long aftertaste with a soft humming in the gums. Lovely Barolo. Will last but I don’t see a revolution ahead.

  • The aromas jump out of the bottle as soon as you draw the cork. Pale garnet. Beautiful and expansive dried rose, and flecks of red and dark fruit aromatics waft out of the glass; silky and slinky texture, a touch below medium bodied, a tightly-wound core of tar, dried herbs and ripe noble tannins, some dark fruit notes interspersed, the finish mostly tar-driven. Belies its 15% ABV, this wine has a seductive, layered texture that is most attractive.

  • A little too huge and ripe. Not even finished but drunk. Very ripe but the heft doesn't show on the taste, which is smooth as silk and all sweet black cherry.

  • After 4 hours decant the wine exposed the glory of Nebbiolo, a bit tannic but over time 1 hour it became delicious with all the notes you like, the wine is not ready to drink unless you decant, will be better in 5-10 years. Drunk from Zalto Burgundy glass.

  • The "riserva" in the Burlotto portfolio, one of my favorite producers in Barolo. Burlotto has an impressive history, once a supplier to the royal family in the late 19th century. The legend has it Burlotto was the first producer bottling wines called Barolo.

The Acclivi is a classic blend from different vineyards in Verduno, the northern most commune in Barolo region. It's not quite up to the standards of the legendary Monvigliero cru but still a beautiful wine with a hand crafted transparent feeling. 93p
