Love it....blackberry and black cherry fruit with notes of coffee, earth, black licorice, spice, and cedar. Still has great balance to it, nice acidity, with smooth and supple tannins, and long finish. In a great spot right now after 20+ years but can still lay down for a few more.

On opening and for the first 30 to 40 minutes this 2001 Napa beauty is vibrant with blackberries, ripe cherry and hints of dried berries… Dark red in color with a clear rim not showing any hint of it 20 years… After 40 minutes the nose evolved to dried cherry, spice, and coffee…
On the palate there is lovely and luscious fruit with cherry and pomegranate flavors dominating strong tan and still present but still drinks balanced with good structure…
In reviewing the notes here on CellarTracker I see there hasn’t been a note posted for a few years… And I disagreed with those who found this wine to be turning old…
I think storage is key… I bought this wine unreleased and it’s been perfectly stored in the cork looks pristine… Very enjoyable
I find it odd that Cellar Tracker has this valued at around $44… If I could find a case at that price I’m a buyer… Provided there is some evidence of proper storage.

PnP at Springs Resort from WH. This was not for me. Felt like the fruit was hiding behind some flavors that do not agree with my palate. This wine is smooth and should not gain anything with time as the structure is starting to fade however if this is your style it may appeal to you. I am not familiar with DA so hard for me to pin where this was vs is vs will go. Drink up if any remaining.
The 2015 Pontet Canet has a profile similar but blows this away in magnitude, viscosity and depth. Fast forward the Pontet to 2029 and it will be a lockout by comparison.

I have to respectfully disagree with some of the previous reviews here as I think this wine is absolutely singing right now. Beautiful dark fruit of black cherry and blackberry fruit that is luscious and well balanced. Wonderful core of earth, tobacco, eucalyptus, and mint where the flavors just go on and on. Smooth, supple tannins carry the long finish!
