1979 Ch. Mouton-Baronne-Philippe (i dag Ch D'Armailhac): Orange med vandig kant. Tørkede bær, røde blomster, kjøtt, sort te, parfyme. Helt finpolert, men likevel noe struktur igjen. Denne er nok over the top, men spennende likevel. Følger ikke helt opp i munn. 88-89

Has some leather and equine notes along with cedar and tar. It is only mid-weight but quite pleasant, fresh and savoury. There's a gentle suggestion of cassis and the finish is dry.

Pale intensity with red brick color and orange/brown at the rim. On the nose, red fruits of cranberry, rhubarb, cherry then cigar box and iron. On the palate - lean, light bodied with bright acidity and firm tannin. Flavors of cranberry, briney licorice, white pepper, cigar box, leather, iron, pine and salty fig jam with a long lemon-pepper finish. This was an exquisite tasting experience of an older vintage. You never know what you are going to get. This bottle was properly cellared and the result was an assertive, balanced, lean, structured, feminine warrior of a Pauillac Bordeaux. After decanting we savored the wine over an hour's time and it kept revealing more aromas and flavors from the wide red Bordeaux spectrum with the pine and cigar box finally taking the stage in the final sniffs and sips. Surprisingly, there was zero sediment on the bottom of the decanter or the bottle. I read online that this wine was best consumed between 1989 and 2004. That said, it apparently continued to hold up and evolve further to delight. Thanks to our friends Kathryn and Jerry for inviting us over to participate.

Light clear strawberry in the nose. Surprisingly fresh with good acid in tough tannins. But lacking body and fruit. Interesting but not very pleasant.

Still a little fruit and earth/minerals but the core is soft vinegar. Definitely years over the hill.
