Still quite young but approachable without qualms. Notes of petrichor, red apple, light oak, and caramel, but mostly what comes across is a bright, refreshing, structured but not artificially so, thirst quenching Chardonnay, as fresh as the rainwater that trickles down from the many small creeks that spring from the Appalachian trail, 400 yards away! Love the lively, vibrant nature of Hardscrabble vineyard. Wine Advocate gave this wine a 93. In another two to four years maybe!

This has a 93 point Wine Advocate rating and who am I to quibble? As you can tell from my nickname, I am a red wine drinker, but I really liked this Chardonnay. I get a distinct note of apple on the nose with the characteristic Chardonnay fruit and toast. Smooth and nuanced on the palate, this crisp white has a note of acid, a note of sweetness and a delightful melange of almond, citrus, and vanilla leading to a nice finish. WA says there isn't a better Chardonnay in Virginia and I would agree. Disclaimer: I signed up for the Linden case club.

Tasted with a 2013 single vineyard Meursault Burgundy and a 2013 Napa Valley chardonnay of similar price points.. The Linden Hardscrabble Chardonnay more than held its own against the Meursault and was far more balanced than the Napa wine. A somewhat fruity aroma (papaya), some density in the middle and fairly long finish.
