This is drinking beautifully. Golden. Honey and floral nose. Bright with honey, apples and flowers on the palate. A little oak with a grounding earthiness.

Five years ago, I commented, “Slowly this wine is coming around. It seems to be picking up some heft.” Now, is the time that the wine is hitting its stride. The color is a rich straw. The nose is fulsome with golden delicious apple, cream, lemon oil, butter, lemon marmalade and more cream. From an attack of golden delicious apple edged with the sharpness of citrus, the attack gives way to supporting forces of Asian pear and other white fruit. The wine is fleshy without being big and definitely not flabby. The body is strung on a frame of acidity. The fruit is ripe and leads into a creamy finish. 13.3% alc. With Thanksgiving dinner of roasted squash soup followed by fried quail over sweet potato waffles. Other wines of the night: Egly-Ouriet 1997 and Dumazet Cuvee Rouelle Midi Condrieu 2012. Recommended.

Blind Tasting @ Weygandt (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Intense aromatics of flowers, honey, green apple and honey butter. Thicker than the other Chard in the tasting, with caramel and almond notes, but there's also an impressive amount of acid, even some minerality. Floral, citrus and full of flavor an nuance. Apparently I wasn't impressed by a bottle I had four years ago, but I enjoyed this one a lot.
