After an hour in glass decant and slow ox in bottle, the fruit was undetectable, strong metallic taste with harsh tannins made me so put off I thought about tossing it down the drain as flawed. First night was undrinkable except for the booze. It wasn’t hot; just disjointed. Left it open overnight then recorked in the am and tried again the next day. Metal vanished, tannins were round and in background, and dark fruits appeared with hints of iron and dark chocolate. 92pts after 15 hour slow ox in bottle. Don’t see anyone else reporting similar issues so it could be an off bottle. Bought on release, stored at 57 since. Go figure.

At PNP this is deep purple in the glass. On the nose pencil shavings, spices & vanilla. On the palate blueberry cassis, chocolate goodness. This is a big wine that manages to not be over the top or sweet like some of the other Outpost bottling that have rolled over and become jammy. Firm tannins on the finish with a little heat but not overbearing. Fruit showed early but became muted.
This is my first bottle from my stash and I believe this bottle will continue to improve with time. Plenty structure to aid in development. Not sure the Estate bottling will improve but I'm holding out hope.
Big, big, big wine - dense, dark and delicious. Still needs a decant to allow it to open and to deal with the sediment. I recommend holding remaining bottles for at least two more years but you will enjoy a delicious wine if you can’t wait - which I couldn’t on this, my first bottle of 2013. It will be interesting to see if I have the patience to wait 2+ years to open my next bottle.
