  • Gacha-pon wine.
Sometimes you get the special thing you pain for, and tonight we didn't...
2012 Nipozzano certainly hasn't been good to us...

  • Fresh and focused, with bright cherries and the usual acidity. I remember these bottles getting softer if not with a little bit of tertiary aromas when they hit 10y of age, but nothing similar is happening here, still very much in its prime and easy decade ahead... which is great for a bottle of roughly €10 (purchase from Italy on release).

Grapes: the main variety is Sangiovese, as well as other varieties - malvasia nera, colorino, merlot, cabernet sauvignon.

I recently managed to find a bottle of Nipozzano 2012. And this is an interesting experience as the wine is already aged, even though it is Resirva.

Color: deep dark ruby color with brown rim.
Aroma: red currants, fermented cherries, leather, smoky and strawberry tones, as well as a special sangiovese aroma - tomato leaves and the tomatoes themselves.
Taste: wine with a very strong structure - high acidity and coarse tannins, the balance is slightly skewed towards acidity. Medium body (expected more dense), medium intensity taste, and berry aftertaste (cranberries and lingonberries)

Wine should be drunk only with food with a high fat content, then the acidity becomes pleasant and the tannins are more rounded.

Unambiguously, the wine is mature in all qualities (color, aroma, taste). For those who want to understand how wine changes with age - I recommend this sample.

Medium(+) finish. Drink now. Smooth and fresh. In a great spot. This bottle is not fading but sieve the window. Shows the age ability and value of Nipozzano.
