  • Evolved red core with tawny rim. Delicious. Complex nose of tobacco, wet leaves, mint, liquorice, raspberry straps, pine, black tea, black cherries, star anise, oak. Vanilla and marshmallow at times. Mature and inviting. Constantly evolving in the glass, maintains interest.

  • Well done and completely enjoyable. The first pour of a Brunello always causes me to react negatively because of its light color, but had I closed my eyes, I would have been wowed. Beautiful nose, full and lingering flavors with mature tannins. Just a delightful bottle.

  • Drank from 375 ml bottle. Classic Brunello in every aspect. Forward nose of plum and mushrooms, touch of leathers. Palate shows mature qualities, tannins completely resolved , balanced and good viscosity leading to a long balanced finish. Not getting any better, at least not in 375 ml format. Drink now.

  • I opened this and said to my wife, "Why does Italian wine always smell so much better than all the others?" To be honest, it's really just the better Sangiovese and pretty much all the Nebbiolo (and Timorasso among the white wines), but it's noticeable. More haunting, more shape-shifting, more room-filling. Wife pointed out that this could easily improve for ten or more years, which I leveraged into a reason to add storage space and buy more back vintages. Dust, leather, tea roses, violets, a little wood (Altesino has used barrique for 20% of the aging time), cherry blossoms, it's pretty spot on right now, but those secondary notes will get better. Alas, I have just the one bottle here (not sure why), so we'll have to hold onto the other vintages and see if they make old bones.

  • Mature Brunello: wet leather, earthy, dark cherry, black currant, soft vanilla, tobacco leaf, plum, prune, medium body, long finish. No need to cellar this any longer.
