So much longevity left on this wine. The structure, acid, and alcohol were perfectly in balance. Turned earth and mushrooms wound harmoniously with raspberries and cherry.

Similar impressions to my prior note, but showing even better now, quite magnificently so. These ancient vines have managed to wring an intensity out of this vintage that I haven't tasted anywhere else yet. Right out of the gate this has a veneer of piercingly intense black cherry fruit, and then when you poke it the fruit that oozes out is all saucy red fruit with the saturation of a reduction sauce but plenty of fresh wild berry zing. Like my last bottle the non-fruit elements are both gamy and stony, here more strongly on the side of the former, also featuring an almost porcini-like savoriness. Bottle still has CO2 you need to decant or shake away.

Terrific Gevrey. I am starting to think Lucien is the king of the Boillots. Remarkable power for the vintage - this really seems to benefit from that old-vine intensity. Lots of CO2 at first that needs to be shaken out though. Then it features dark red/black fruit that's alternately gamey or stony depending on the food accompaniment (pheasant really brought out the former). Feels very much a Gevrey, in other words.

Really delightful wine. Resembles an elegant high fashion model rather than a voluptuous Playboy centerfold.
