Cloudy, ruby-garnet color. Aromatic and redolent of blackberries, very ripe black cherries but with an initial pronounced funky odor. Mature flavors of blood, iron, meat and plum. After an hour or so, the funk resolved and was replaced with a far more pleasing nose of candied cherry, pomegranate, orange and roses. Better to enjoy sooner rather than later.

Tasted blind. Nice nose of strawberries, underwood, and some spices. Medium+ acidity with quite soft tannins and flavors of wild strawberries, and cherries on the palate. Surprisingly primary right now. Good finish. I thought this was a very pretty wine, but it lacked a bit in complexity for a Grand Cru and the vintage. Still, very enjoyable.

Clos de Lambrays Vertical 1989-2015; 1/1/2017-9/22/2019: During a MSD Grand Cru blind tasting dinner. In this flight we had a generous contribution of a 1989, 1990 and 1993 Clos de Lambrays and there were lots oohs when it was revealed that it was a CdL and not a CdR or CdT. I guessed CSD. All wines showed the great attributes of a mature Burg nose with some meaty, anamalic notes intermixed with red fruit and autumn leaves. The palates were elegant with bright acidity still. The 1989 (95pts) and 1990 (96pts) had very good stuffing and were equals, while the 1993 was a bit thinner (94pts). Three very good showings of Clos de Lambrays.

PnP, not decanted. Fine, elegant and balanced. Round and with a nice sweetness, beautiful Pinot fruit, quite young. 91-92
