Community Tasting Notes (12) Avg Score: 92.5 points

  • Prior bottle was 10 months ago and this wine is showing beautifully. Nose was virtually identical; classic Oregon with mostly black and some red cherry along with a very pretty forest floor undercurrent. Medium bodied with rounded and expressive black cherry upfront, offset with brighter red cherry highlights. Mid-body is silky and elegant, a clear step above where this wine was previously. Darker black cherry and even some plum come in at this stage, but with excellent roundness. These notes worked exceptionally well with the spices, tart red cherry, tannins and acidity on the backside and finish. Fruit expression, mid-body depth, excellent contrasts and balanced structure; this wine exceeded my expectations and fully earned the higher score. Drinking beautifully now and should be able to maintain this level for at least another couple of years. I, for one, will certainly be on the lookout to acquire more....

  • Black cherry mixed with red cherry highlights and forest floor notes on the nose. Medium bodied (13.6% ABV) with dark red cherry upfront (not quite black) with a very interesting mix of earth, spices and minerals that allows the wine to show some brightness, but real depth and character. As with all Walter Scott pinots, one of the big strengths is balance between fruit and structure, handled deftly here. Pleasantly tart red cherry notes on the backside along with integrated tannins and acidity. Showing very well at present but based on the overall presentation, this style has a lot of life left and may even show some modest improvement over the next 2+ years with another couple of years beyond that at a high level.
