👃balsamic, soy sauce, preserved fruits 👅 A bunch of secondary or tertiary flavours, can't remember which is which. No real fruit left, balsamic, salty, still good acid and tannin in balance, with a velvety finish.
With my limited experience, I think this is a pretty good showing for a 12 year old 20-ish dollar wine. This doesn't blow me away but the more I drink the more I like it. With my limited inventory of old wines , this is a rare treat.
I think this is the best age I've had of this wine. Going to have to consider buying one or two once in awhile and keep them for 10 years. I'll score this a 91 at it's current state because I've had other aged wines that were more complex, but this is not a one note aged wine to be sure.
For all the newbies out there, if you want to try an aged wine on the cheap, this is the way.
91 for what it is but 93 for value

Further to my Note of April 19, '20: Two more bottles recently. Decanted with light sediment for its age. Holding well with good color, mature black cherry on the nose and palate, good mouthfeel. Solid notable.

Further to my Note of Aug 6 '18: This is #4 from the 12b case. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Medium purple; fragrant, some black cherry, some baking spice; mature black cherry, bit of new leather; some persistence. Almost delicious, good with herbed chicken and rocchetti. Certainly still notable.

So much better today than the tannic beast I had in '18. Still tannic but nice red fruit and some savory element (soy sauce?). Great QPR.

Benefited from decanting & some time resting. Somewhat leathery on the front end, subtle tannins.
