January 2020 disgorgement. Paired this with the 203 Larmandier Bernier Levant, I served them both blind too. The guys around the table had correctly put the L-B on Chardonnay (which is correct) but they did the same with this Suenen. It's remarkable how pairing and blind tasting can cause influence to how a wine is perceived. There is a density and more overt fruit on the Suenen, which contrasted to more elegance and a tighter wine in the L-B. Would have liked to taste the Suenen again but the bottle got drained and my notes from last night are pretty crappy.

Glorious nose of white truffles. Berries, apricots, toast, with orange rind on the finish. As it came to room temperature, grapefruit became more pronounced. So rich, so delicious. I believe this is the first vintage.

Served blind to me, and I was able to nail the Pinot Meunier but then I started to try to guess the producer and I was hung up in the Marne Valley. Instead, this is farmed up above the Montagne, not far from Chartogne-Taillet and Miniere. Disgorged December 2019, 1 gram of dosage. Distinct richness here, yet it's contrasted with both slate and dried lime, as well as oranges and strawberry. Lively acidity. This fooled me for a higher dose wine. The quality here is superb, and I passed on the offer for these last year when I could have locked them up. So, to taste this was a treat. Excellent bottle of Champagne here.

Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): From the wine list at Tokyo Record Bar (NYC). 2nd bottle of the night from a grower I have only recently discovered. 100% Pinot Meunier from 50 year old vines in Montignyo-sur-Vesle. Disgorged Dec-2019. Lots of red berries on the nose, racy acidity and spices. Very good and paired well with the Japanese tasting menu.

Brilliant wine from 100% pinot meunier. Really open style, perfectly balanced with a bit of toast. great length.
