  • Decent precision and energy, with a nice mineral-tinged focus on the attack. Really nice balanced acidity to carry it through the mid and back end. A solid showing given its $20 price point.

    89-90 points.

  • A solid showing for a German Riesling - not quite enough zap to warrant searching for more, but for a weeknight off-dry white, I'm quite happy.

  • Intense lime-green color. Sweet, concentrated and very ripe nose with rich aromas of sweet citrus fruits, some waxy tones, a little bit of honeyed richness, light perfumed floral tones, a hint of juicy golden apple and a piercing touch of steely minerality. The wine is full-bodied and somewhat oily yet very crisp and bracing on the palate with concentrated flavors of tart lemony citrus fruit tones, beeswax, some ripe apple tones, a little bit of stony minerality, light peachy tones, a hint of honey and a touch of incisive steely character. The racy acidity keeps the wine very fresh and structured all the way through. The finish is quite long, crisp and very mineral with lively flavors of wet stones, ripe citrus fruits, a little bit of apple peel bitterness, light honeyed tones, a hint of steely minerality and a touch of chalk dust.

A very impressive and almost painfully youthful Rheingau Riesling that shows the typically mineral and bracing style of the region, but lots of ripeness and sense of concentration at the same time. The ripeness of the fruit nicely offsets some of the racy acidity, but overall the wine feels very primary and almost aggressively crisp. Despite being "only" a village-level Riesling, this wine really feels like it is built for the long haul and I wouldn't be surprised if the wine seemed relatively youthful even at 15 years of age. Although somewhat approachable now, I wouldn't touch the wine for years. Expect the score to go up with age. Highly recommended.
