Leitz / Argiano tasting (Wijnkoperij Henri Bloem, Utrecht, NL): Retailer tasting, brief note. Löss and loam soils, from the flatter vineyards east of the Rüdesheimer Berg, with a little bit of Bischofsberg thrown in. Earthy, juicy, has substance and bright acidity but lacks a certain elegance at this stage.

Rheingau - visiting Leitz & Breuer (Rudesheim): {screwcap, 12%, €12} From sundry vineyards within the Rudesheim village. This also shows apple-like fruit, but with some real steel quality underneath. Fuller and rounder and a bit more intense than the ein-zwei-dry cuvee. This has medium acid and weight, and adds a bit of citrus to the flavour palette. Near medium-length finish, this is very tidy and stupidly good value. If I were a local, I’d be buying this by the truckfull.

Tasted with Leitz. Light straw yellow. Mineral aromas with some smoke. Very elegant. Light and delicate acidity. Can be stored many years, according to Leitz. Reminded of a Kabinett with its sheer elegance. Very good for the price.
