In a Galaxy Far, Far Away - Richebourg ! (Vancouver, BC, Canada): Darkest red of the 8 Meo-Richebourg’s enjoyed this evening from a rather middle weight vintage. Geographically located mostly in Veroilles au Richebourg, with an austere spicy earl grey nose - slapped with some frankincense - very consistent with the birthplace of these vines. Very tight palate of low bush lingonberries, with no herbaceous stemmy elements as evidenced in other producers using whole cluster fermentation. This brooding violet nosed elixir , with a gorgeous balanced finish- needs to slumber for another 15 years to allow time for the fireworks to evolve in the glass.

From barrel. Hmm.. what to say? Well I guess you could start with "WOW" regarding the depth of flavor on the palate and the persistence of the finish. Dark with a bit of spice and serious class. This is going to be a real gem. Well done here.

Friday Cellar Visits in Burgundy - Anne Gros & Méo-Camuzet (Vosne-Romanée): Tasting at the domaine. Huge spicebox, glorious red fruit. Identical on nose and palate. Very long, elegant and expanding finish. 95-96 point potential.
