Very thin garnet color with slight dusting at the rim. Medium structured legs. Bright dark cherries, red berries, mulled spice, floral notes, complex nose. Thin to medium mouth feel with mildly astringent tannins. As it warms mocha notes and moderate acidity. Smooth but reasonably short finish. Needs time but approachable now.

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The structure is youthful, but it isn't overpowering. The feel is refined with violets, red cherries, roasted herbs, raspberries, spice notes, and some earth tones.
Overall: This is an elegant and pretty Barbaresco. It leans more towards nuance and elegance and could use 3-5+ years to start to show itself.

Visit to Oddero, La Morra: Oddero's only Barbaresco. Good ruby colour. Bright red cherry fruit, earthy, rose and strawberry aromas with hints of spice. Elegant and refined on entry to the palate, the red berry fruit seeming below medium weight and a little soft on the mid palate. However, the structure, power and weight comes through on the back palate. The Gallina finishes on powdery, chalky tannins. Give it 2-3 years to integrate. An interesting Barbaresco.

Tasted at the cantina. Bright garnet>ruby, clear. Opens with soil, cherry, strawberry, roses, herbs, some more soil and a touch of resin. Medium>full body, with medium length. This well-structured wine is in need of time. I've no doubt this has the stuffing to add more complexity and character over the next several years; with 15 minutes more in the glass, this has already gotten much better. Hold for a few more years, then drink thru 2025. 14,0% abv., (resolved). recommended
PnP, served non-blind.

At dinner with friends and my wife. Needs air and way too young but still shows the beauty of the Oddero Gallina. Previous notes apply.

Piedmont Trip, Day 5- Oddero, Vajra, Aldo Conterno (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: The nose is cool and fragrant with violets, red cherries, roasted herbs, tar, raspberries, spice tones, and licorice. There is excellent depth to the nose with a high-toned quality to it.
