  • I knew something was different about this Argentinian Malbec as soon as I saw the color and took a whiff. This one is from Patagonia, where almost everything about the terroir is different from the other typical Malbec growing regions in Argentina. The color is about as dark as Malbec can get. The nose is by no means typical either, there is complex potpourri, raisin and molasses in front of the black cherry and raspberry aromas, and a good hint of alcohol. The fruit is kind of muted in a metallic, structured sort of way, and could use some more time in the bottle, a decant, or the vinturi. Noticeable heavy toast oak but moderate. The fruit is also different with an elderberry, mulberry entry to the more traditional cherry and blackberry flavors. When a hint of orange peel. Mild tannins. A bit of mint with vanilla on the finish. This wine will make your teeth purple.
