Wow! Not familiar with this vineyard “les Faconnieres” but this bottle is drinking like a grand cru. Beautiful nose, still structured (despite age and only being 1er cru) but also very well integrated tannins. Violets and red fruits on the nose - very pretty and very alive for 22 year old. Palette is cherry with a delicious mix of raspberry and blood/iron - much like Hubert Lignier clos de la Roche. This is an amazing bottle which is drinking absolutely on point right now and for possibly a few more years to come. Outstanding!

Burgundy Dinner with Friends (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Still lots of bright and precocious red and black cherry on both nose and palate, followed by some faint earth and spice notes, densely packed and lots of fun right now. This should continue to drink well for at least another decade.

Beautiful bottle. Perfumed with red and black fruits, dried rose and violets, spice, and sous bois. Fine equipoise between earth, fruit, and savory character. Good lift and a bit of peacock's tail on the finish. There's still some structure here, but in a mostly resolved state. Lovely. Followed an excellent bottle of Bouchard 1988 Beaune Greves Vignes del'Enfant Jesus and did not suffer by comparison. Drunk with SH at the Simone.

The Les Faconnières from Lignier-Michelot is dynamite in 2002. Immediately intense and captivating with a medley of aromas — black cherry that are both fresh and dried, pronounced spice, dried herbs and florals. Harmonious with serious concentration approaching Grand Cru, from what I believe are old vines in this vineyard.

Double Blind Côte-Rôtie Tasting (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Served double blind following a Côte-Rôtie tasting. I was confused by the wine. Red cherry start-to-finish, but a firm, tannic finish was nearly harsh and detracted considerably from its enjoyment. I did not think this red burgundy, despite this being a wine I've enjoyed many times. Perhaps it being a last minute poo-and-pour at cellar temperature hurt its performance, or perhaps this was a slightly off bottle.
