Disturbing, and significantly aged brownish look, far more so than I was expecting from a 10 year old perfectly bottled wine. Some leather and boot polish, not much freshness. But a palate that was spectacular, complex and altogether different than I was expecting. Reams of tannin still providing fantastic structure. Strange but enjoyable wine!

Deep, dark raspberry red color with a thin, pale red rim. Very massive and opulent nose nor a Barbaresco, yet the aromas don't feel excessively rich, but instead surprisingly elegant and harmonious. There are very powerful, yet still delicate and fragrant aromas of ripe dark fruits, red cherries, dusty soil, some roasted spices and hints of smoke and tar. Overall the nose feels very pure and well-delineated. The wine is very youthful, focused and tightly-knit on the palate with only medium to moderately full body, yet remarkable amount of fruit concentration. There are flavors of sour cherry bitterness, tart cranberries, stony minerality, peppery spice, some sweeter notes of rose hip marmalade and hints of ripe dark berries. The mouthfeel is remarkably silky and soft despite the moderate acidity and massive, firm and very grippy tannins. The finish is very tighly wound, tannic and grippy with complex, savory and acid-driven flavors of sour cherries, rose hip marmalade, some crunchy dark berries, a little bit of peppery spice and smoky hints of tar and scorched earth.
An immense, concentrated and dead-serious Barbaresco that is all about pure, well-delineated Nebbiolo fruit and stern tannic structure. Served blind, I'd put this immediately to Barolo due to its remarkable power and concentration. Still painfully young and will remain so for a very long time, perhaps over a decade more. Fortunately the wine is all about aging potential, so you don't need to worry if you are going to drink the wine too soon. Will need long time to unwind and even then the wine will probably benefit from letting it breathe in a decanter and pairing it with something hearty enough. Astonishing stuff for such a young Barbaresco, but not a wine I'd want to open any time soon. Very highly recommended.
