  • The 2014 Côte de Jouan from Thomas Pico is the best wine I've tried from him so far. Still youthful, this is classy and terrifyingly balanced. Light roasted almonds, with Mirabelle plum, grilled lemon, oyster, chalk, saltwater, white peach and cream. Hint of old oak. High acidity and super precise. Terrific! Now - 2028

  • This wine has a very "fancy" label for a French wine -- it has a drawing of a wolf. The information such as location, vintage, etc are in non traditional locations making it harder to figure out what the wine is. In any event it is a classic Chablis -- pale straw color, dry with a bit of minerality. It has a wax seal. I guess the seal helps protect authenticity but I cannot get these wines open without some of wax getting into the wine. Thus I routinely pour through a stainless steel wine strainer. I have gotten advice on how to do this without particles getting into the wine from a number of different people, but I have not been successful. Nice wine, frustrating wax seal, nice label but the information is harder to find.

  • Excellent! Medium weight with lovely lines. A touch of roundness overlays a firm heart. Good power. Limestone, superb acidity, though balanced. Very fine, but youthful.
