Mike's American Series Oregon Dinner (Hawthorne, Kew, TW9): Inexpressive nose and seemed slightly tired on the midpalate as it lacked vibrancy and seemed a little loose and unfocused. Still, there were nice slightly decayed raspberry and balsamic notes with a touch of forest floor. It was tough to go next to the 00 and perhaps this wine would have been better by itself outside of the context of a wine dinner.

Mike's Oregon Dinner (Hawthorn): Subdued, musky nose, with a delicate floral note that just about made itself known. Still pretty structured. Chewy, ripe and full-bodied, the finish starting out a bit green and ending (with air/warmth) somewhat sweet. Given that, and all the wine to come, I didn't finish my glass.

Mike H’s Oregon @ Hawthorne: Slightly duller, dense mid ruby. Fuller and denser on the nose. Some spice. Quite leggy in the glass. Some evolution here. Heat too. Rounded, a pinch of sous bois and a little caramel. Full but not overdone though the alcohol does feel a little out of kilter at the moment. **(**)

For Charlotte NC area Queen's Feast restaurant week at Vintage House restaurant in Hickory NC. Brought by good friends, popped & poured tableside which worked well but a short 30-45 minute decant would also not hurt. Drinking beautifully and a testament to a combination of the winemaking and terroir. Drink or hold and leaning on the drink but on the other hand no real hurry - with proper cellaring this still has some time although no further upside to cellaring is anticipated. Very Burgundian in style albeit a bit more muscular and fruitforward then Burgundy typically is. Dark purple, no bricking, no sediment, completely mature, well integrated, soft mouth feel, medium - full bodied, oak and tannins soft but present and acid and fruit going strong. Overall beautiful, elegant, supple and surprisingly complex with a lovely medium length lingering aftertaste. Nose floral and aromatic with kirsch, rose petals, lilac, coffee and black pepper. Flavor profile of initially red and then more sour cherry, raspberry, herbs, black pepper and a smokier finish. Highly recommend.

Dried leaves and fresh cherry aromas. Cherry, cranberry, subtle coffee, Forrest, very soft texture with resolves tannins and length.
