  • SangioFest, Volume III "It's my favourite spot" (Chicago, IL): Not my favourite showing of this wine -- I've certainly had much better experiences with this specific bottling. There's an intense, sweet strawberry note on the nose here, coupled with just a bit of volatility. This comes off a little more like strawberry jam than straight fresh fruit, and again there's a touch of volatility that makes this feel less clean and precise. In comparison to my previous bottles of this, there's a bit of a diffuse, muddy quality to this bottle.

  • Red fruited and ethereal. Good acid, velvety tannins and some spice. This is heavenly and I am a bit sad to see this one go. A great wine - and how appropriate that it was opened for Xmas eve dinner.

  • From magnum.

Gorgeous - I love Stella's wines, and one never knows, but it's hard for me to imagine this can possibly get any better. This really spreads out and coats your palate. Very happy to have more.

  • Sangiovese study, Volume II (Chicago, IL): Likely my favourite wine this evening. This was drinking so well right now it's a wine that's hard not to love. Some stemmy spice notes on the nose, with an overall red-fruited profile, with strawberries showing quite prominently here. Elegant and mineral, with acidity perfectly balancing the sweet red fruit and reasonably resolved tannins.

  • Another glass of this about 48 hours after the wine was initially poured; from magnum.

I just commented about how interesting I find the vintage differences in Sangiovese as manifested by the fruit tones on the nose; after trying a glass of a black fruit-dominant 2010, this wine is all about the red fruit on the nose. Lovely wine here - I don't think it will ultimately have the ability to age and develop further complexity like the 2010 should, but for current drinking, this is full throttle pleasure. Seamless on the palate, with copious sweet/ripe red & black fruit, decent acidity and good persistence on the finish. Delicious!
