Interesting Rioja and one that is fairly easy to find at wine shops. Also, a bargain to find the 1999 at just $15. LAN is not a Spanish word but rather an acronym for Logrono, Alava, and Navarra (L-A-N) which are the three Spanish provinces that the Rioja region intersects. The wine looks light in the glass with a bright and light cherry red color. I found it to be not particularly aromatic, but hints of earth covered strawberries comes through. It’s more light to medium-bodied in the mouth. The first few seconds are excellent and shows much of the structure and complexity expected from an 8 year old wine with its oak and bottle aging. Tastes of cranberry is accurate with prunes, plums, smokiness, and some toated oak. I simply found that the wine didn't leave the finish that I wanted after the first few seconds after each taste. I kept drinking quickly to draw out the finish. Very smooth with just 13% alcohol and easy to drink. Actually went well with hard cheeses, olives, and smoked salmon.

Smooth, mild tannins. Well aged, with oak over fruit. A very easy drinker. Nice with stronger cheeses.
