Well.....one good turn deserves another ! Bottle # 2 of this Rhone . Similar notes from yesterday....this bottle however seemed slightly brighter and fresher with less damp earth notes , and some hints of sassafrass/ root beer notes and more enhanced pomegranate flavour ....the dark fruit notes kept it grounded and more serious....went well with Fusili with Pocetta bacon and tomato herb sauce.

A fine value CDP.... On nose: damp earth , notes of dark ripe fruit and a ghost of floral lavender ( lilac?) On palate : all above flavours , in addition to complex notes of pomegranate, beef drippings and notes of thyme and rosemary .....high alcohol ( 14.5%) , but well integrated with the oak and fruit ....went well with pork loin and roast potatoes .....Will age well...

A private dinner (Restaurant Café Cliché, Amsterdam, NL): From Pied Long and La Crau, a blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and a field blend of Cinsault, Muscardin, Vaccarèse and Couboise. Supple, juicy and rounded, elegant and easy in spite of 14.5% ABV, crushed red berries, ripe peach, warm spices, garrigue and field flowers, gentle warmth from the large, older wood, mild tannins, very good resonance and length. Quite a delicate style, lovely nuance, almost Burgundian in style. I like it very much.

Elegant, medium bodied, fresh, forward, silky wine, with a polished, sweet, spicy, cherry, floral and licorice personality with a chalky finish.
