  • This is my third and final review of this wine. This wine is so typical of the prior two I tasted and reviewed. Some garrigue and leather on the nose and a lot of brick in the color. Sour raspberry notes on palate and acidity and tannin dominate first night open. I let it sit in fridge after vacu-vin overnight. As before it improved but still not as good as Beaucastel, Pegau or Vieux Telegraphe 89-90 vintages I have purchased and enjoyed.

  • I am surprised this wine has improved since I last tasted it in January 2017, and I am happy about it. The same red fruit of ripe raspberries and sour cherries is there but the finish has definitely improved especially with significant airing. On day one it was just acid and tannin but now on day two the acidity and rustic tannins hAve resolved and are allowing the fruit to be ascendant. Wow, can a CDP really be alive for so long? I certainly hope so because I still have a mixed case of CDP from 1989 and 1990 to lovingly work through!

  • Pop and pour. Initially a little nervous as it smelled a bit dusty but this blew off quickly. Lovely old school Chateauneuf. The fruits are still there but not sure that they will last much longer maybe a another 2-3 years to drink up.

  • I really wanted to like this wine but after a couple of days of letting it breathe and tasting 2 ounces at a time I guess I am a little disappointed. It has gotten better with time and aeration however. Cork in decent shape but had to use an ah-so to get it out in one piece. Definitely has some bricking but tannins were very prevalent early and have softened with air. Red fruit like sour cherries and some raspberries but acidity obscures the fruit. Finish is several seconds but ends with more acid than fruit. Pegau, Vieux Telegraph and Beaucastel from this year were all much more enjoyable.

  • Monthly Tasting Group: CDP's and Southern Rhones (Porter Creek, Mpls, MN): Tasted, tiny pour. Gamey, rustic, sour fruit, plum, fig, garrigue. Not bad, but probably past prime drinking.
