Wow everytime I open up a CDP I always wonder why I don't have more CDP. One day I'll learn. This is a not-very-expensive CDP from Domaine Jean Deydier that is drinking well. From the really good 2015 vintage (arguably better than the 2016 with regard to entry level wines), this Deydier is packed with action. Nose of red and white wildflowers and dirty red fruit. Pours a beautiful maroon red violet color. The palate is both opulent and acidic. Medicinal red cherries, red licorice, a hint of rhubarb, some brambly black cherries and white pepper on a neutral oak tannin for the finish. Fine grit sediment in the last 20ml. This wine still has structure to last a WHILE. Don't feel like you have to open these in the next year or two, "or else"...they'll last a while for sure. Drink now or hold for a decade.

Surprised me in a good way. Brilliant ruby red color in the glass. Nicely aromatic with hits of cherry and dark blue fruits accompanied by floral notes. Medium bodied, dark blue berries on the palate and hints of spice - mild pepper. Medium acidity and medium plus but finely grained tannins that became more pronounced as the wine opened up and lingered on the finish. I’m not sure if this has aging potential or not. Wish I had more bottles to find out. Unfortunately, this was a gift and the only bottle we had. I would definitely drink again. A very nice weeknight CdP.
