  • Wow this was good. Sweet earthy compost, orange peel, blood orange, dried cherries, salty fermented anchovy, mushrooms.

Dry m+ acid, med tannins resolved, med alcohol on lowish side 12.5%, silky medium body, med+ intensity, med+ finish.

This has evolved beautifully in bottle into a balanced wine w complexity. Paired w mung bean and pork belly stew.

  • Dried rose petals, ripe morello cherry, new leather, truffle, and some cardamom undertones. Medium-light-bodied, medium+ acidity. Nicely balanced with structure present; highly aromatic. In a good drinking window for secondary notes, but no rush - at least a decade and probably longer of continued evolution. Really good and an exceptional value.

  • Drank along side AR.PE.PE.'s 2013 Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi. Really neat comparison, despite its greater age this wine showed up with bolder fruit off the bat, solid tannins.

  • Absolutely no reason to pontificate on this wine. For $25 it is an amazing value. Nicely balanced between fruit and tannin, with no heat. Drank with a short rib ragu over fresh parpadelle. It sang tenor while the sauce and pasta sang baritone. A wonderful experience.

  • Rose petals, ripe black cherries, ripe red currants, old leather, tobacco, fresh cracked black pepper, grilled plantain, dried red chili pepper, dried basil on the extremely complex nose. More fruit than non-fruit aromas. In addition to the complexity, the intensity of aromas is high even right after opening. The palate is more like 50/50 between fruit (the same black cherries and red currants) and non-fruit. It adds flavors of forest floor and spearmint, the latter dominating the mid palate; but keeps pretty much everything else from the nose. Lingering finish that clocks in at just under a minute.

Medium + body with medium + acid and medium powdery tannins. Still developing, and drinking a lot younger than it is. You could age this 5+ more years easily, though its lovely right now. Definitely do so if you prefer your Spanna tertiary. Overall zippy, complex and intense at this age.

    Great pairing with Paniscia!
