  • Bottle in perfect condition, high fill.
You can definitely see the impact of using close to no oak on this wine. Nose and palate are still very fruity, with secondary notes and with a certain sense of lightness, in a good way.
Could have like more intensity and length, but for a 35 yrs+ drink, very well done

  • Over the hill. From a magnum with very good levels.

    Really wanted to like this.

  • Color still dark and young. Complex nose towards tertiary notes, with black fruits and dried flowers. Mouth is dense long and keeps some good grip. What’s better than this wine in Margaux in the eighties, only the first growth. A lesson of winemaking 30 years later (no young wood barrels...)

  • Decanted for 8 hours, drunk by Zalto Bordeaux, with friends during dinner over 6 hours compared with 1995. The 1986 was a great Bordeaux, deep color, nose leather, deep dark berries, very seductive, taste firm grip of greatness that exploded over time, 1995 was simply blown away. Still many years in this wine, unbelievable but the truth. I still got one bottle (my sons birthday year) to share with family on my birthday in late October.

  • Rating based on the showing for this old bottle. Cork came out perfectly; 3/4 stain. Bottle had good fill level. Poured in decanter and then in glass. Initially the nose was all iron and damp forest floor. A couple minutes swirling brought out some red fruit and more dry woodsy elements, so I tasted. The palate is juicy and silky, with roasted game, faint tobacco, old barn (nails and all), and some hints of dried red fruits past. Mostly the primary nuances are gone. This is delicate but complicated. Finally an older Bordeaux performs in my house! Drink up; it’s great now.
