La Paulée - Friday Night Dinner (A Fiori): A real treat, but unfortunately this fell short of sky high expectations. Just never really gained the complexity or depth I was expecting. Beautiful, elegant fruit with nice subtleties and proportioned balance. Very good, but no more than that.

La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Ai Fiori - New York NY): Served alongside Serveau 1985. Mature red berries with age appropriate amount of earth. Came across as ripe but less full than I expected from 1990. Very good balance and charm, even if not as expressive or nuanced as the finest bottles of Freddy's wine can be.

Medium-deep ruby red in color with ever so slight clearing at the edges. Initially reticent, eventually evolving with airing into a fragrant, attractive, developed & mature, complex nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with truffle overtones, floral notes of violets, spices, earthy, dusty, dried herbs, meaty, minerals and a hint of cedar. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, smooth textured, developed & mature, ripe fruit flavors of red Bing cherries, blueberries & cranberries with spices, herbs, minerals, earthy, mushrooms, cocoa and a touch of toasty oak. Long lingering silky smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present yet should hold at this current plateau for several additional years.

Corked. By its deep color and gorgeous strawberry fruit behind the TCA, you could tell that this should have been something special, but alas, undrinkable.
