Bill's lunch, Bill's wine. Easily identifiable as CalCab, but it was a little harder to find the vintage--most of us went to the 90's first, then big 80's vintages like 87 and 86, which this showed well enough to be. Had that classic rusticity of the Jack London's smoothed into elegance by time. Nice.

PACKED WITH FRUIT IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. TOUCH OF LICORICE AND CIGAR BOX IN THE NOSE. BLACK CHERRY FLAVOR. SHOWING NICE COMPLEXITY WITH A MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.

With Kathy and Miranda at home at dinner (pepper steak/rib steak). Dark ruby color. Fairly viscous. Great varietal nose. Blackberry fruit. Deep and aromatic. Nicely integrated oak. Surprising concentration and depth of fruit for the vintage. Good flavor. Excellent wine for the vintage. Very nice. One of the better wines of the vintage. 4-11–15-7: 87/100.

At home with pizza. Deep, dark red. Fruity but rather simple bouquet. In the mouth, good concentration and extract of fruit, with American oak in the finish. Good body and balance-good dose of tannin. In no danger of falling off or fading right now. One of the better 1983s I have had. 5-9-15-6: 85/100.
