  • Quality natural cork. Pours a dark red, earthy nose with a touch of spice. Was surprised on my first sip with a ton of fruit, some tart acidity, fine tannins. Very smooth and a long pleasant finish. This is in a nice place right now and drinking well, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

  • The last of my 2015 bottles from Ridge - these things have a tendency to not last too long as they are so drinkable and so versatile even only a few years after release.

I have nothing much to add to all the excellent comments by others, except perhaps that at this stage the fruit still feels fresh and rather primary, the texture is smooth with integrated tannins, the acidity is certainly not out of whack and its everyones guess if it's just going to stay this fine for a long time or start on an upward or downward journey in the next coming years.

The wine has just been great since release so on the one hand I feel like saying this is one of those "if its so good now, why bother storing it", but on the other hand it would be fun to know if there are even greater things in store further down the road.

If I had bought 6 or 12 of these (which I should have of course) I would at least save one for the very long haul to check.

  • Consistent with previous notes. So enjoyable. This disappeared in no time.

  • Powerful, succulent , and mature; Ridge, always good, always reliable, but, as here, sometimes the rich and balanced black fruit, szechuan pepoercorn, cassis, and smoky black cherry wood qualities in the nose and in the mouth are delicious but not quite compelling enough to carry. the 14.5% alcohol. There is a little heat and bite mid palate to finish, and a note of piney disinfectant, likely from the Carignane. Maybe the impact of high alcohol seems less overt in 5 years; a 50/50 call, in my book. Ok to drink now, just decant it for an hour or two, and serve it with asian spiced shortribs, or charred lamb (rosemary here works great) or ribeye. I will not be surprised to rate this 2 points higher in 3-5 years.

  • Decanted 4 hours. Great from the initial, pre-dinner pour, through dinner to post-dinner. Medium weight, integrated svelte tannins. Plum dominates with some blackberry and cassis. Great match with Cambodian grilled chicken (though ours was baked tonight)
