  • This is a good wine and I'm going to focus on the things that keep it from being even better. First and foremost, there is a bitter green pepper flavor in the mouth. It seems to be a flavor that is mellowing, but it hides the blackberry and other dark and blue berries. The wine is huge, but the wine can leave a watery, thin residual mouth at the end of some swallows. Tannins seem light for the body of this wine.

  • Still improving. Found it more balanced and integrated. Got tobacco, blueberry jam, coffee, casis, some green herbacouness, and spice notes. Opened two hours prior to pouring, no decant, all enjoyed!

  • Broken stones, intense cassis, blackberries, baking spice, maybe some tertiary driven roasted vegetables — some alcohol driven hotness. The palate is unctuous with more of the same from the nose. Subtle earth at the beginning of the palate — but then moved towards dark, intense and extracted.

As others have pointed out, it’s kind of too extracted — I didn’t feel like it was too too far over the edge, but a little restraint would have helped this wine feel more open. It feels kind of tight and dense where maybe it could have been rich and lush.

  • I think this probably delivers everything the maker intended it to but for me it’s just too big, too hot in alcohol and is lacking the subtlety or nuance that for me are the hallmarks of fine wine.

It’s clearly a great terroir and I wonder what this could have been if they had harvested a few weeks earlier and kept the alcohol at (or preferably below) 14.5%. Just because grapes can ripen to this level in Napa doesn’t mean that they should, or that they make a better wine by doing so. Cabernet should be refreshing, I think. It shouldn’t taste like port.

  • another great wine from the 2014 vintage. I opened this after another 2014 that I truly enjoyed. thin and balanced, integrated tannins, a truely lovely wine. My only complaint is the finish. Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful and long finish, but it has a touch of some spice maybe clove that adds a strange twing. But still think it is wonderful.
