Decanted one hour before service. In the glass, pale clear orange-tinted pink at the rim, shading gradually to medium-dark clear maroon the core. On the nose, a two-fisted combo of strawberries and iron. On the palate, soft, but an acidic backstop maintains tension. More strawberries, cherries, and orange liqueur, with a secondary note of beef blood, and a moderately long finish. Lovely with lamb kofta.

This light and elegant Pinot is one of the most nuanced I've ever tasted from the Santa Maria Valley. Light red in color and medium in body, the wine offer aromas of sour cherry, dried cranberry, ground anise, and white flowers. Flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, trail dust, and pepper, with a silky and bright finish. 14.1% alcohol.
This was far more nimble and fresh than a 2015 Williams-Selyem Rochioli tasted at the same time. Instead, the Lato manages to be ripe without being candied, a (classy) surprise for this appellation. Drink in next few years.

A really nice Pinot. Low in tannins, good acidity, cherries, raspberry, pomegranate, quite light ruby in color, some oak. Nice!
