Dark purple black color. Mocha, black current, graphite and spearmint scents. Medium weight palate. Smooth with very fine grained tannins. A bit of wood shows on the finish. Nice balance. Still evolving and improving.

blackberries, licorice, mocha, cassis, chocolate, baking spice, red cherries, pencil shavings, and tobacco.
A nice brightness to the palate despite the dark fruit being ripe and juicy. Tannins are still very much present but the structure is well defined and gives an overall smooth mouthfeel.
Needs to decant for a few hours, but really nice QPR TK if that is even a thing

Pop and pour into a decanter - I know, not fair, but so it goes. In the glass, purplish indigo at the rim, fading immediately to an opaque, inky near-black core. On the nose, cassis, graphite, and a very faint note of spearmint. On the palate, definitely in a backward, muted state, with tannins front and center, but even so, currants, pomegranates, graphite, plums, and mint all make brief but intriguing appearances. I think at least another five years are necessary, and perhaps more, for this one to wake up.

Don’t expect any surprises here other than Detert Cab Sauv is consistently good year after year. It’s powerful yet elegant. Tannic yet balanced. Fruity yet reserved. It’s undeniably a solid pour every time.

I think this is the best Detert I’ve had - and that includes both the CS and CF over numerous vintages. It was drinking extremely well with a 2-hour decant. But due to various circumstances, half the bottle went back into the wine fridge and sat there for 3 days. I pulled it out tonight, not expecting much, and it was fantastic. Better than on day one. It had taken on notes of cedar chest, pencil shavings, a bit of cigar box, along with the dark fruit and liquorice. It’s both silky and chewy, if that makes sense. Smooth but weighty. This out-Pauillacs a lot of great Pauillac wines.
