Deep golden. Savory marzipan. Herbal/mineral/white stone fruit. Complex tertiary character. This was fabulous on the first night (especially with lightly smoked abalone) excellent on the second (especially with lightly Douglas Fir smoked king mushrooms) — and a small abused bit remaining on the third, after we schlepped it home, was tired, yet still good. (At Harbor House, Elk.)

Decidedly less syrupy than the smaragd which makes it dangerously gulpable. Crushed the whole goddamn thing with chana masala and tarka dal. No rush here either.

The crazy thing about this federspiel is how well it held up. I would have expected this to be past prime but this bottle seems to be ageing at a snails pace. While there doesn't seem to be any improvement it is at a nice plateau.

I wouldn't age this any longer, but it's drinking beautifully right now. Gentle, balanced, pure. Phenomenal value at the $25 I paid on release.

Has not lost anything over the last year. See my previous notes. Was great with grilled shrimp and a tortilla espanola.
