A private dinner (Geisel's Vinothek, Hotel Excelsior, Munich, Germany): Recent release. Mature appearance, almost completely bricked through; complex nose, mature but fresh, transparent, vinous, nuts and undergrowth, roses and a strong note of peaty malt whisky; gentle and flowing palate, elegant and generous, mostly resolved tannins still provide gentle grip, fresh and harmonious, silky, light flavours of cedar and red berries; hints of green tea and almond milk on the sweet and supple finish, very good length. An exemplary 30 year old Barbaresco.

Overall, a weak Barbaresco. The nose lacks any filigree. The wine is simple and honest, but nothing special. Red berries on the palate that seem slightly bitter.
