  • 1989 revisited offline (Hambleton Hall, Rutland): This is quite perfumed on the nose with some honey, quince and a touch of citrus. Quite fresh on the attack, yet there's decent concentration on the palate. Massive acidity, balances the sweetness. But overall, it's really rather underwhelming.

  • AP #26-90. Dinner at Bistro 607 with Fred & Ronnie. The evening's disappointment. But how woulod we know the previous 2 wines were great without something lesser to compare them to? Medium gold in color witha light, but not off, nose of iced tea and diesel. More Auslese-like than BA-like. Good, but far from great. Our second time with this wine and the second mediocre showing. Maybe it was never a great wine? 50+10+9+7+7 = 83.

  • Dinner at Fearrington. AP #26-90. After the capsule was removed there was liquid on top of the cork, never a good sign, but an occasional occurrence with sweeter German wines. Is this why the wine showed as good, not great? Light gold in color with a ripe nose and palate revealing iced tea, pineapple and tropical notes.Medium in body and in length of finish, this bottle seemed developed, though not tired. Maybe a little off due to the seepage? 50+12+10+7+7 = 86.
