  • Nicely balanced mineral macon,
medium+ body with integraded noble oak and a little creamines. Salty mineral finish with fine acidity. A bargain.

  • 14% alcohol.

Moderately deep yellow-green color. At first the nose feels very odd with a prominent whiff of canned, oily tuna; however, the nose clears up, revealing quite woody aromas of toasty oak, some chalky dust, a little bit of cool steely minerality, light apple, tones, a hint of white peach and a touch of sweet caramel oak. The wine is broad, full-bodied and oily on the palate with very ripe and quite rich flavors of creamy oak and caramel, some pineapple, a little bit of apple jam, light apricot tones, a hint of savory wood spice and a touch of toasty cedar oak. The medium-to-moderately high acidity really doesn't lend enough freshness to the rather heavy mouthfeel and oak-driven taste. The finish is ripe, juicy and slightly warm with rich flavors of sweet, toasty oak spice, some butter, a little bit of pineapple, light apple jam tones and a hint of vanilla.

A heavy, rather oak-driven and quite boring Mâconnais white. The wine feels just too ripe with its high alcohol and sweet-toned fruit with the inadequate acidity not high enough to lend good sense of freshness or structure to the wine. The overall feel could be a bit more balanced if the use of oak had been more judicious, but it just overwhelms most of the fruit, drenching everything underneath the buttery and caramelly sweet notes. The wine might get better with age if the oak integrates with the fruit, but the modest acidity really doesn't promise much aging potential here. A wine I'd rather pass.
