  • Vertical Tasting of Alpha Domus – The Navigator
    Tasting the 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018.
Wines tasted over consecutive nights, accompanied by citrus lamb casserole on night one, and homemade pizza on night two.
Night One: To an extent, like the 2013, seemed to suffer from being at a sub-optimal stage in its aging cycle. Blueberry notes which are not evident in any of the other wines were observed. Good length, but uneven flavour progression. #4 of 5
Night Two: A big mover overnight, notably more in balance on this tasting. A lot of fruit, good flavour progression, and an oaky sweetness on the back of the palate. Vied with the 2010 as our favourite of the night, but ultimately we have placed it #2 of 5.
    #2 of 5, 89/100

  • Drinking really well right now. Tannins have softened and a lovely plummy, berry quality. Might be missing a little complexity in terms of evolving length and depth but was very, very easy to drink.

  • One of the better New Zealand Red Blends I had while on the South Island, an island better known for their whites. Figures, as this wine is from Hawkes Bay on the North Island.
