Tantris m Roth) Keine Tinte, aufgehelltes Granatrot. Eher einfaches Geruchsbild, schwarze Früchte, etwas Lakritze.

Decanted for 20 minutes or so. Initially a little stray/tomatoey but that blew off in the decanter. Spice, garrigue and florals with currant and ripe wild strawberry notes. Medium tannin. Red plum and peppery spice palate. Domino picked up some anise on the palate as well. 92 pts for both of us.

The 2014 Domaine du Banneret Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a remarkable showing from the Vidal Family in this vintage. The blending is a traditional Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre style, with 60% Grenache from famous parcels located on the highest parts of the "Grand Pierre" terroir, which lie close to Rayas, along with 10% Syrah near Bois de Boursan, 10% Mourvèdre near the Rhône, and the remaining 20% are the 10 other grapes which are part of the appellation from vines are 80 years and older. As this opens in the glass it instantly releases striking aromatics of fresh raspberries and plum which are accented by spices, floral, fresh herbs and hints of smoke and licorice all beautifully taking shape. On the palate this offers a medium plus body with an absolutely gorgeous round, seamless texture and impeccable overall balance and finesse. This develops appealing flavors of bittersweet chocolate and kirsch liquor which build up and expand beautifully onto the long finish. Today, this is already showing a great deal of early appeal, however this may not be the easiest wine to find with a total annual production which never exceeds 1000 cases and is often just half that. (Best 2017-2027) - December, 2016 (JD)

Drinking very well. Was a bit cold; recommend letting warm up from cellar temp a bit before drinking.
