In the glass this is of medium density and transparency with little to no bricking on the rim. The nose consists mainly of ripe raspberry with just a hint of menthol and a touch of bakers chocolate. On the tongue is a lot of ripe red cherry with some white pepper and a bit of chocolate covered cherry on the finish. This is still singing with loads of fruit and appears to have a few more years left in the tank.

Complex red fruit, earthy, with aromas of roasted meat and tobacco. Leaning toward strawberry and raspberry. Well balanced, fairly resolved tannin, mouthwatering finish. Wonderful bottle of Zinfandel that’s maturing gracefully.

Relieved that this was much better than my last bottle...particularly since I just discovered that I paid $40 for these last two! The last bottle was simple and flat (quite possibly flawed). In this, the signature salinity and briary/dusty fruit is evident in the mouth. There's an underlying, weird, waxy or plastic smell but only when insistent on swirling the glass. But if left alone, the aromatics are all ripe, purple fruit. In final analysis, the fruit flavors have faded...and what's a Zin, if not a fruit bomb? Interesting but well past it's prime.

I think this is past its prime. Pretty and well-integrated but non-descript and simply ho-hum. Not at all offensive but far from the expressive and intriguing wine that Fred's known for.

A little VA on opening. Seems to be blowing off. Dark red fruit. Rustic. The fruit seems somewhat stewed/pruney. Still, we finished the 375 at lunch.
