Super happy guessed this correctly as Italian Super Tuscan but got the vintage wrong during our Blind Tasting dinner.
Loved this and perhaps my 2nd fav bottle of the night from the 10 bottles. Dark & blueberries, tobacco notes, chocolate and that slight dry leaves notes. Robust but balanced acidity. Smooth and refined tannins with lingering finish. A lot of similarities to a really good Bordeaux Left Bank

Richly fruited. Simmering with hints of alcohol though. Cassis and menthol. Very Australian! Palate rich and cassis again, with a lushness and depth to it. Doesn't really come across as Italian to me though, nor Bordeaux: this is rich, new-world-type winemaking, with fruit and excitement at the expense of poise, grace and charm. Again, this really could be from Australia as well as other areas! Perhaps overpriced too (35-40Eur). Perhaps not. Delicious but also somewhat hard-work. OK now, and would cope with medium-term ageing I think (until 2025), but I'm not sure it will reveal more by doing so. 92+?

A visit to Castello Banfi: Powerful and muscular, intense with, dark berries, tobacco, oily, a touch iodine, solid but friendly tannin, deliciously made. Merlot 60% CS 40%
