  • Decanted for two two hours. The nose of crushed raspberries with violet flowers with mushroom soil. Palate of bright cherries, blueberries and acidic spring raspberry and strawberry. Black ripen Plum with mineral overtones of pine mushrooms.

  • Decanted 90 minutes before service. In the glass, pale clear raspberry color at the rim, fading quickly to a dark, brooding, almost black core. On the nose, black cherry, orange peel, and flint. On the palate, cherries, spice, Cointreau, and a hint of ocean water, with structured tannins on a long finish. I don't recall previous iterations of Ceras having such a deep color, but the aromatics and taste profile remains consistent - an interesting and pleasurable wine. I think there may still be upside from here, with another 3-5 years time.

  • Prior bottle was just over 3 and a half years ago and the wine has improved along the lines I'd hoped in that time. Both black and red cherry along with earth and light floral qualities on the nose. Just a touch above medium bodied with expressive black cherry notes upfront that have opened up noticeably since my prior bottle. Adds some pretty red cherry and brighter red berry notes through the mid-body and then earth, spices, light acidity and balanced tannins on the backside. Balance overall has improved from my more structured earlier bottles, but it still has room for improvement, particularly as compared to the 2017. At this point, the 2017 shows slightly better depth through the middle as well as better overall complexity and balance. This 2016 seems to be on slightly lighter frame, so I don't think it will reach the heights of the 2017, but it should continue to come together with time. Next bottle for me, June/July 2023.
