Has entered its drinking window, but better on night two where a touch more detail emerges. It’s nice and integrated, medium to full bodied for Hunter. Oak flavours now well and truly in the background. More detail and age characters sure to emerge over coming 5-10 years. No hurry, but can be enjoyed any time from now.

Neutral and no score on this bottle because glass consumed with a bad sinus infection. What I can say is that the quality of the wine managed to find a way past that olfactory blockage. Seems that the oak that I spotted on release is now very much absorbed in to the wine, leaving lovely Hunter savoury and earthy tannins and refreshing acid. Bought for under $18 from Winestar. This is a better balanced wine than the 2014. A bargain. I hope the new owners of this old vineyard can coax the shades of brilliance this wine has shown over the last couple of years in to a more complete and consistent wine. I doubt I’ll be able to find it for under $20 once they do.

Violets, blueberries, plums, some liquorice and cream. Drinking well now but will age well to round out the edges. Drinking this at their cellar door restaurant Baume- life is nice.

Whistestop Hunter tour (Hunter Valley): Plummy and spicy, quite rich and jammy with spiced oak. Sharp acidity and spicier over the plums on the palate with slightly gritty tannins. Hmm. its bit too sharp for me.
