Big brutish wine. Heavy mouthfeel, definitely a heavy weight. Aromas come at you with big chunky fruit ... cherries, plums and a big dose of peppers and meatiness. Flavours repeat. Some chewy tannins, drying. Just a big over the top wine. You have to be in the mood for this one. Will IMO overwhelm a lot of food. Big, heavy, thick, dark jammy compote. Not my favourite style but still drinkable. Decent acidity. Medium length finish with some bitterness to the compote. Not sweet fruited. More stewed,.

Plum with bay leaf and some light green pepper notes. Medium acidity with medium tannins with a gritty character with a slight astringency. Body is medium-light.

Nose of black plum, candied cherries, and white lilacs. Dry blackberry and sour cherry palate with a coarse layer of wood underneath. Sticky tannins on the finish with tart black fruits, notes of burnt caramel, and aged oak.

(K Vintners Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard) Drawing Winner: The lucky winner of our final book drawing, for the 2012 Horsepower Syrah Mag, is Scott Marckmann, a Full Puller since 2015. Congratulations to Scott, and thanks again to all of you who have supported 36 Bottles of Wine! ---- Hello friends. We have small parcels of a trio of Syrah from K Vintners’ recent set of releases. Our K offers are always feeding frenzies, and this one promises to be extra cuckoo given the wines involved. So, we’ll dive right in with two quick notes: 1. To the best of our knowledge, we have retail dibs on all three of these wines west of the mountains. 2. It’s likely we’ll have to under-allocate here, given the parcel sizes, so a quick reminder of our allocation technique: Our allocations favor breadth over depth, so that everyone gets one bottle before anyone gets two. And our formula for prioritizing allocations includes overall orders, frequency of orders, recency of orders, and list tenure, among other factors. Now, onto the wines:After a brutal allocation of the K Vintners fall lineup, we received access to an additional small parcel of The Deal. The Deal is what it sounds like—an incredible value—and is a rare opportunity to access one of K’s best bang-for-the-buck Syrahs. It comes from Sundance Vineyard, one of the oldest Syrah sites on the Wahluke Slope, planted in 1997. Jeb Dunnuck: Copyrighted material withheld. At today’s start, we have 44 bottles (updated availability).

This might be one of the best QPR wines out there. After an hour decant this wine springs to life. I need to keep more of this on hand. Tremendous
