Thought this might be well past prime. The nose was surprisingly fresh and pleasant. Ruby all the way to the edge. Integrated, softened tannin, mesmerising fresh red fruit, slightly mouth-watering acidity. A spectacular wine, still! PNP, I'm in love already.

Tasting at the winery. Explosive aromatics of tertiary development. Mushrooms and wet earth followed by fruit that retained its freshness and vibrancy. A real WOW wine.

Napa 2023: the quieter version; 2/6/2023-2/11/2023 (Napa/Sonoma California): To put this in context I don’t like this vintage at all. I think the wines all aged prematurely and they’re not that interesting. So when blinded on this I got Le Desir but I went with 2001 which has life and this wine is all life. So big surprise when I get we’re in the vicinity and instead of going to 2002 which to me has some similarities she went to 2000 which to me is a wildly different vintage. It’s darker and sweet fruits and coffee grounds and a different blend which did mess me up a bit. It’s closer to 50/50 Merlot and CF and then remainder is CS and the other varietals. But the vibrancy here. It’s kindof superhuman. We have a bottle pending and now I’m super intrigued if bottles outside of the estate can be like that. Interesting to see…

Pnp. Funky aroma upon opening which blew off after just a short while. It uncovers aromas of cherry, dried herbs, leather and underbrush. Satin textured with mocha and cherry.

This bottle was corked. Nothing like a $100 bottle of wine being ruined by a 10 cent cork. Give me a screw cap.
