  • Tasted February 2020. The nose balances fruit and savory aromas, offering blackberry, cherry juice, dark roast coffee, blood orange, and scorched earth. Full bodied, it is ripe with small-grained grippy tannin, mid-line acid and sharp, but integrated alcohol. Very elegant profile with a structure built for 10+ years. Flavors include plum, blackberry, cassis, blueberry, Chinese 5 spice, mocha, violet with a dried seaweed and Thai basil finish. Keep this ten years and then drink over the following ten years.

  • Decanted and slow ox'd by HMC before our great flank steak dinner. Never had a wine from this producer before, though I have had other winemaker's takes on these grapes. This is a beautiful dark yet bright red in the glass and maybe the most soft velvety mouth feel I've had in a wine in years. It comes across as very well balanced/integrated and maybe in its very best window right now. I am very impressed by it and to me it's an easy 95. Other Pellet renditions from other makers have always seemed darker, heavier than this one. Another in a long line of the Napa '14 reds drinking very well right now. Thanks for opening HMC!

  • Opened and slow ox'd for 3 hours then drank for another 2-3 hours out of a decanter. The wine was exceptionally smooth and well-integrated. Tannins and texture were round in the mouth. Plenty of dark fruit which was a bit less red than an excellent Quintessa 13 that Mark1NPT brought and was enjoyed alongside. My WOTN because of the fruit profile but similar to the Quintessa in most other regards. Drink now for those, like me that enjoy Napa cabs still in their fully mature primary phase. 94 and I don't see it improving much for my palate - HMC

  • This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Showing nice complexity with a great, soft mouthfeel.

Dry on the palate and full-bodied. Smooth and elegant with medium acidity.

Showing black fruits with earth, chocolates, tobacco, spices, coffee, cedar, vanilla, licorice and black pepper.

This 7 year old is drinking very nicely now and will continue to age nicely in the next five to seven years.

This Single Vineyard needs a couple of hours to open up properly, so give it time.

Nicely balanced with a great mouthfeel. Spicy, soft and smooth. Fruit forward and rich.

Aged for 36 months in French oak barrels.

    14.7% alcohol by volume.

    93 points.

    $95.

  • 88-90:

PnP to a slow ox tasting - nose is earthy, oaky, cassis. Palate is dark fruit and tannins to start, picked up some lovely raspberry with air. Still fairly tannic and tight. Finishes short.

I'm a little torn here. I paid a fairly discounted price ($55ish) for the wine, and at that price, I'm not knocked out, but it's about what I expect from an estate bottled Napa. I wouldn't pay the winery price for it, for sure.

    QPR 5 (of 10)

    Aging 2028 at least.
