  • Fantastic wine !
Sweet plum, chocolate milk. Beginning to have tertiairy mushroom notes but in a still youthful core of fruits. Full bodied with very good length and complexity. Great now but still has at least 4-5 years ahead, but no need to wait. I will surely wait for my more recent vintages.
Drank with Martin (92) and wife (94)

  • I think this wine is done. I drank this over two nights. Sour and thin the first. Much better the second and better with food. There is zero upside to holding it. By the way, properly cellared since purchase in 2007. I can't vouch for before that.

  • Really vibrant nose. Still quite inky burgundy color. Plent of soft tannins. Nose much more pleasing than taste. Flavor was somewhat astringent berries and a slight pinch on the finish. I'll try my last bottle soon to see if similar. Still, a nice bottle. Needs food. Put the last quarter of the bottle in a beautiful beef brisket recipe. Outstanding contribution to the meal!

  • Mainly Sangiovese (80-95%) with small parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Macerated with the skins for 14 days. Fermented in barriques (1st, 2nd and 3rd use), 10 yo botti casks and cement vats. Aged for 15 months in French barriques and tonneaux of 1st, 2nd and 3rd use and in 10 yo botti casks, and a further 6 months in bottles before release. Annual production 50,000 bottles.

Still pretty youthful, somewhat translucent dark cherry color. Enormously attractive, fragrant and ripe bouquet with sweet aromas of cherry jam, blackberry marmalade, baked plums, some chokeberry, a little kirsch, a hint of licorice and a touch of barnyard. After the opulent, sweet nose the dry, almost austere and acid-driven medium-bodied palate comes as quite a surprise. Dry, intense flavors of pronounced licorice, even Finnish salty licorice, peppery spice, sour cherry, some herbal bitterness, alittle stony minerality, a little exotic spices and a hint of dry cedary wood. The wine is still very youthful, almost angular and full of focus and depth. Surprisingly easy tannins for the style. Very long, structured and slightly grippy finish with flavors of pepper-driven spice, sour cherry, tart cranberry, some bitter herbs and a little licorice.

Though the difference between the nose and the taste of the wine is huge, the wine is still really stunning and utterly delicious. Probably a Sangiovese this light (well, not light, but neither big and bold), dry and acid-driven is not to everyone's tastes, but for me, this wine was all about elegance, sophistication and poise. The wine is still quite young, so I'd say it starts to drink nicely after 5-10 more years. The second best wine in a Torrione vertical of 2004-1994, right after the stunning vintage 1997. A cellarworthy red for people who prefer elegance and precision over ripeness and extraction. Really beautiful.

  • Something amiss with this bottle. It's been properly stored since purchase in 2007. Cork came out fine. Nose beautiful with raspberry and briar. Taste was off. Thin and watery with a slightly sharp finish. Improved slightly the second night but needed food to be good. Better with cashews of all things...
